Narges Mohammadi, a well-known human rights activist in Iran, referring to the year-and-a-half war with the US and its captives, says that the ongoing US sanctions along with the economic poverty and internal repression have left "no room to breathe" for the Iranian people and the Iranians are suffering.

The winner of the 2023 Nobel Peace Prize said in an interview with the AP news agency that the people of Iran are struggling with many crises caused by the ongoing war and growing economic pressures, and they are the ones "paying a very heavy price".

Narges Mohammadi, who has now been released from prison on bail for medical reasons, said in this interview and pointed out that the people's quiet stand against the Islamic Republic continues: "If you go to the streets, you will see a wave of resistance among the people and a wave of their awareness and determination to stand up for their rights." He adds that government repression has increased, but many of the new and younger generation "know their rights" and stand firm.
