Denmark welcomed the "mandatory" agreement announced by US President Donald Trump, according to which Washington receives "permanent control" over the security of Greenland and prohibits the establishment of Russian and Chinese bases in this polar territory.
According to AFP, Lars Lok Rasmussen, the Danish foreign minister said, next week "could be a good week" as the agreement is to be signed on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meeting in New York; A problem previously confirmed by Denmark and Greenland.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Denmark wrote in a message on social networks: "We hope that the long period of uncertainty will give way to a binding agreement that will strengthen security in the Arctic region and the North Atlantic Ocean." Rasmussen added, this agreement, which he says respects Denmark's "red lines", is of great importance given the changing security conditions.
