Syrian officials reported an explosion of unknown origin on Friday, September 18, at a military base in the eastern province of Deir Ezzor, saying that the accident killed 11 people.

The French news agency, citing the Syrian state news agency Sanaa, reported that the Syrian Ministry of Defense held a funeral ceremony for the 11 killed in the explosion at the army base.

The office also says that the cause of the explosion is under investigation.

Several similar explosions have occurred in the past in the munitions slums of Syria. A country that after the overthrow of the government of Bashar al-Assad, the former president of Syria, at the end of 2024, is going through the process of getting rid of more than a decade of civil war.

At the beginning of this month (September), an explosion occurred in an ammunition warehouse in the northwest of the country, resulting in the death of 14 people.

Earlier, in northwestern Syria, at least five people were killed in an explosion of a vehicle carrying ammunition.
