Eurozone citizens in Europe can vote online on a total of ten proposals for future euro banknotes. Sometimes these designs look like a watercolor painting with a few brush strokes, sometimes they are realistic like pictures in a biology book, and sometimes they are abstract with geometric shapes. This survey runs until next Monday, September 21, 2026.

According to the European Central Bank, around 9 million people have participated in this survey so far. Nils Gerhart, a banknote expert at this bank, says: "Considering about 359 million people living in the Eurozone, this number seems small at first glance." However, according to him, this participation rate is very successful compared to similar surveys.

Christine Lagarde, the president of the European Central Bank, said when the survey was launched in July that all the proposals were basically created around two general and main issues. One is nature, meaning birds and rivers, and the other is European culture represented by European characters.
