German Chancellor Friedrich Mertz says that the "unconditional friendship" between America and Europe, created since World War II, is over, at least in its current state. The Bloomberg news agency described these statements as the latest sign of the split in the "transatlantic" relationship between the two sides of the Atlantic Ocean during the presidency of Donald Trump.

Mertes added: "On the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, we are witnessing a change in political positions as well as a change in the view of the union between the two sides of the Atlantic Ocean; "changes we never imagined were possible."

Friedrich Marts made the remarks on the eve of the Berlin state parliament elections on Sunday September 29 (September 20) and during an election rally at the headquarters of the "Christian Democratic Party of Germany" (CDU) in Berlin.

The chancellor compared the current relations with the US to the visits of previous US presidents to Berlin and referred to the famous speeches of John Kennedy and Ronald Reagan.
