Saudi Arabia: The Houthis wanted to attack Mecca

According to the authorities of Saudi Arabia, the air defense of this country intercepted and destroyed a drone belonging to the Houthis of Yemen in the south of Mecca. In response, the Houthis rejected the attack on Mecca or other places in Jerusalem.

Turki al-Malki, the spokesman for the Saudi-led military coalition in Yemen, while announcing that this ground attack was carried out on the evening of September 15, called it a "shameful act". He said: "The security of mosques and pilgrims in Jerusalem is a red line for Saudi Arabia."

This is the second time that the Saudi authorities have announced the Houthis' attempt to launch a ground attack on Mecca. According to al-Malki, in 2017 a Houthi ballistic missile was intercepted on the way to Mecca.

The Houthis in Yemen rejected these accusations and emphasized: "There is no threat from Yemen towards Mecca or other places in Jerusalem and Salami."
