Ismail Bakai, the spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, called the cancellation of the meeting between Iran and the Arab countries bordering the Persian Gulf in Salalah, Oman, a "sudden" action and said that the non-holding of this meeting was due to "Saudi Arabia's request".

Bakai stated that this meeting, previously announced to take place on Monday, September 14, "was an opportunity provided by Iran and Oman, and it was expected that the countries of the region would be opportunistic and appreciate this opportunity."

He dismissed speculation about the link between the cancellation of that meeting and the escalation of Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia's energy infrastructure, calling it "giving the wrong address." Bakai said that the understanding between Iran and Oman to create a new shipping lane in the Strait of Hormuz has been completed and Tehran will take the next step in announcing or registering this understanding in coordination and consultation with Muscat.
