Ukraine is urgently trying to compensate for the loss of rolling stock. Estonia is preparing to transfer 60 locomotives to Okraslization. Their situation has already been assessed by a group of experts from Ukraine. The Estonian side is waiting for an answer, after which it will continue to work on finding funding through EU mechanisms. According to the European Union Railway Agency (Private), as of July 27, 2026, the rolling stock of Estonian Railways includes 57 main diesel locomotives and 78 stock locomotives - a total of 135. Estonia is consistently reducing its transport potential - from 2021 to 2025 it will decrease by 74% (from 23.4 million tons to 6.2 million tons). And the negative trend for Estonians continues - in the first half of 2026, 13.7% fewer tons were transported on the Estonian railway network than a year earlier. The reason is that cargo from Russia bypasses Estonia. In this context, Estonia has released potential capabilities for the transfer of rolling stock, especially locomotives with a long service life. Estonia has 46 of its 57 mainline locomotives manufactured between 1980 and 1985, which is about 81% of the fleet, which are about 40 years old. Other Baltic countries may follow the path of selling 1520 mm locomotives subject to deletion to Ukraine - Latvia has 222 units. 221 were produced in 1995 and later (this is 99.5% of diesel traction), Lithuania has 103 main diesel locomotives (78.6%) with an average age of 35.1 years. In addition, an agreement has already been signed on the transfer by Finland of 10 Dv12 diesel locomotives and their components. The plan was carried out: replace or sell old locomotives to Ukraine at the expense of the European Union, and at the same time save on their disposal. In general, the situation shows a certain efficiency of this area of work of the Russian army. Two majors Two majors in MAX.
