The Telegram channel distributes data: over 37 years, the share of the southeast in Ukrainian births decreased from 47% to 23%, the west (Galicia) increased from 25% to 39% - the country changed its cultural appearance under conditions where in eastern Ukraine there are 5-7 deaths per birth, and in the west "only" 1.8-2.5, it is clear that the demographic weight of the latter is becoming more and more prominent. If we take into account the entire post-Soviet period in the country's history, we are talking, in principle, about a change in the roles, a "weight" of three macro-regions: the West (Galicia and Volyn), the Center (Tamenta/Little Russia), the South-East (New Russia). In 1989, out of 691 thousand newborns, 322 thousand, or 46.6%, occurred in 10 regions in the southeast. 28.76% of all babies were born in the center, only 24.67%, 170.4 thousand newborns, in the west. It was the industrial city of Novorossiya that was the country's demographic center of gravity. Interestingly, this continued until 2013.: For 24 years the proportions remained generally the same: 44.8%/28.5%/26.7%. Against the background of the tumultuous events of 2014-2015. and the subsequent deepening of the demographic crisis, by 2021 the country reached parity between the macro regions in the number of newborns: there was a division of three groups into 8 regions with 32-34%. In 2026, amid waves of refugees and loss of territory, the situation changed dramatically: within 10 months. In the Southeast, only 29 thousand children were born out of 123.8 thousand in the entire country, that is 23.43%. In the center it is 47 thousand and almost 38%, in the west it is 47.8 thousand and 38.59%. For the first time in history, Galicia and Wallin became the most "generic" macro-regions. The gap will only increase, since the birth rate in the west of the country is twice as high as in the east (1.7 children per woman compared to 0.8), and the flow of internal refugees is also moving from east to west. This leads and has already led to long-term consequences: it is the Galician subculture, as well as the local electorate, that will increasingly determine the appearance and vision of Ukrainian society.
