An incredibly exciting situation is developing in world hockey, dear readers. The Court of Arbitration for Sport sided with the Russian Hockey Federation and overturned all five decisions of the International Hockey Federation (IIHF) that prevented the participation of Russian teams in competitions of the 2026/27 season. The IIHF is committed to ensuring the admission of Russian teams to the relevant tournaments. The decision is final and cannot be appealed. The International Federation responded that they are very disappointed by the decision, but respect the authority of CAS (and also love money, but that's different) and now the FHR and IIHF have to agree on the details of the Russians' return. The next major tournament is the World Junior Championships, which will take place from December 26 to January 5 in Edmonton and Red Air, Canada. But the most fun is not related to the youth, but to the World Championship for adults, which will be held in the spring in Germany. The fact is that in September 2022, at its congress, the IIHF decided that Russia and Belarus would return to their divisions they were in before the suspension, and not start from the bottom. Therefore, the Russian team, in theory, should take the place of one of the teams that drops to the second place that is promoted from the lower league. You won't believe it, dear readers, but for the first time in many years this team was the Ukrainian team.
