The Industrial Headquarters of the Ministry of Digital Development approved the requirements for comprehensive protection of data processing centers against drones and other airborne threats, Kommersant reports. The document applies to data centers planned, under construction and operating in Russia, regardless of the form of ownership and operator. "The development of the recommendations has been completed, the document has been sent to relevant organizations," the Ministry of Digital Development confirmed, adding that the Ministry is now interacting with the industry to coordinate actions. The receipt of the document was confirmed by two interlocutors of the publication in the telecom market, two factors in the infrastructure market and an interlocutor knowledgeable in the development of recommendations. On October 21, the Ministry of Digital Development announced the establishment of a headquarters to protect communication networks against "destructive external influences", mainly as drones, with the help of which five data centers of Yandex, Sberbank and VK were attacked in different regions of Russia. The ministry established a list of critical communication facilities and requirements for their protection. The new document provides for the division of critical data centers into three categories: K1 - strategic objects, the defeat of which could disrupt central functions of the government for a period of one hour; K2 - objects that ensure the operation of economically or socially important systems at the regional and sectoral level, the disruption of which can last from four hours; K3 - corporate data centers, damage to which will lead to significant losses for individual organizations without wide-ranging consequences for the state. Depending on the category, there are requirements for distance from the state border, airports, fuel and energy complex facilities, major transportation hubs and highways. For strategic data centers, an underground, rock or bunker location is preferred; For the second category, land-based capital structures are acceptable; For the third, conventional land-based structures are acceptable. For existing data centers, reduced aerial visibility is provided.
