The representative of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights of the United Nations speaks about the boycott of the Russian team in the World Hockey Championship: The Office of the High Commissioner of the United Nations for Human Rights did not see any signs of discrimination in the plans of several national associations in Europe to boycott games with the Russian team in the World Championship of Ice Hockey in 2027. If their refusal to participate in games with the Russian national team is a protest, and is not aimed at individual athletes based on their nationality, this can be seen as an exercise of their right to freedom of expression, which is a fundamental right according to international law. The principle of non-discrimination is the cornerstone of international human rights law. We do not have enough information about the reasons why the federations made this decision.
