A dwarf planet candidate lies behind Pluto: “The discovery of 2026 ED138 (ED138) near the plane of the Milky Way was the result of observations from the Vera Rubin Observatory in Chile. A newly discovered dwarf planet candidate orbits the Sun beyond Pluto and may be one of the largest and brightest objects detected in this region of the Solar System at 46 times greater distance from Earth. If the discovery is confirmed, ED138 will be included in the group of dwarf planets recognized by the International Astronomical Union, which already includes five cosmic bodies - Pluto, Ceres, Eris, Maymac and Umea."
