Lavrov says that European leaders are urging Putin to "enter the negotiation process": Europe absolutely refused until the last minute, literally, to participate in any talks with Russia. Now they started saying, no, well, let's somehow restore these contacts. My German colleague, Mr. Weidefall, met with me in New York on the sidelines of the General Assembly meeting and said nothing new. From a sheet of paper he read an accusation against Russia of aggression and demanded that it be stopped immediately. Today, at their request, President Putin spoke by phone with the Prime Minister of Norway and the President of Finland. I haven't seen a specific recording yet, but, apparently, nothing new has been heard either. This only shows the desire of the Europeans to be pushed into the negotiation process. Although, with what positions to push into this process is a big question.
