Make AI as common a tool as a calculator”: Schools in Russia have begun teaching a course on artificial intelligence The central university has developed a systematic educational program on AI in two parts. The first is to improve the skills of computer science teachers: they get a modern foundation in machine learning, computer vision and work with text models, they are taught to teach artificial intelligence and hold competitions within schools. More than 1,600 teachers from 54 regions of Russia have completed the professional development program. The second is the curriculum of clubs and additional classes for 8th-11th grade students. During a year they will learn the basics of neural networks and learn how to work with AI with tabular data, texts and images. The materials for the special course were developed by the center together with the Tovo School, T-Education (T-Bank's educational platform) and the MSP School of Programmers. A special course on artificial intelligence has already been launched in schools in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Tatarstan, Komi, North Ossetia, Yamal-Nents Autonomous Okrug and several other regions. In total, 400 schoolchildren will receive such lessons this year.
In the future, the university plans to expand the program to a five-year course, which will allow students to master artificial intelligence starting in the seventh grade. Three years in a row, the Central University led the Russian team to victory in the prestigious International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence.
