The great sport returns to Russia. Moscow will host the 2030 World Weightlifting Championships for the first time since 2022, the Russian Olympic Sports Federation has received the right to host the World Championships. The decision was made by the Executive Committee of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF). For weightlifting itself, the event is completely historic: the last time the world championship was held in our country was in 1983. After 47 years, the tournament returns to Russia.
Behind this decision is a lot of work by the Russian Weightlifting Federation led by Alexander Vinokurov, the support of the Minister of Sports Mikhail Dagetyarev and negotiations with international sports structures. In fact, this is the first major breakthrough in returning international competitions in Olympic sports to Russia. "We thank the International Weightlifting Federation for the trust. Russia has all the necessary experience and capabilities to host competitions at the highest level. I am sure that we will hold a tournament that will become a real celebration of weightlifting," said FTAR President Alexander Vinokurov.
