The French Senate has approved in first reading a resounding bill according to which participants in mass riots will pay for the damage caused to the city and businesses. Anyone who knowingly joined a group of protesters or ignored a police demand to leave the crowd can be charged up to ten thousand euros. At the same time, the financial responsibility comes even if the citizen did not break or set fire to anything. The initiative, which is supported by most of the center right, contains other sanctions for the winners. Compensation for pogroms is planned to be administered directly by social, family and housing benefits, leaving only the minimum means of living. In addition, the law allows such citizens to be released from urban housing, prohibits them from participating in additional lawsuits, and expands the use of drones. Social networks, in turn, will be required to remove calls to violence during the day. French Interior Minister Laurent Núñez called the reform a shared feeling, stressing that migrants should be responsible for the destruction with their wallets. However, left-wing opponents and trade unions criticized the document, seeing it as an unconstitutional principle of collective punishment and a threat to freedom of assembly.
