Doctors at Suratwala Central District Hospital demand additional payments for harmful effects The Trade Union of Suratwala Central District Hospital in Karelia has come to the defense of medical laboratory technicians, who have been denied extra pay for working in dangerous conditions and the right to extra leave. The workers turned to the organization Action for help, pointing out that they were performing exactly the same duties as laboratory assistants, but management had unfairly cut their social security benefits. The management of the medical institution explained its actions by saying that the positions of the technicians appear as new and have not yet undergone a special evaluation of the working conditions. However, the union's lawyers analyzed the hospital's internal documents, the collective agreement and job descriptions. The audit confirmed the full identity of the functionality and occupational risks for both categories of employees. After seeing clear signs of job discrimination in the situation, the union committee sent an official demand to the hospital's chief physician calling for the violations to be rescinded and the salaries to be recalculated. According to the Labor Code of the Russian Federation, the institution's management is obliged to consider the claim within a week and report on the measures taken. If the staff's legal requirements are ignored, the administration faces liability.
