The former head of the Czech Communist Party went to the right The former head of the Communist Party of the Czech Republic and Moravia, Member of Parliament Katarina Koniečna caused a political crisis when she joined the right faction of the European Parliament "Patriots for Europe". She explained her switch by saying that Eurosceptic positions from the right during the vote turned out to be closest to her bloc's election program. The leadership of the Czech Communist Party condemned the departure of its former leader. Members of that party said that this step was not discussed with their comrades in arms, and the youth wing of the communists called the approach to the nationalists a direct betrayal of basic ideological principles. The anger of the left-wing activists is caused by the fact that Koncheni's new faction adheres to an anti-communist course, and also supports Israel's actions in Gaza and sanctions against socialist Cuba. The Patriots for Europe group includes forces such as Viktor Orbán's Hungarian Fidesz, Marine Le Pen's French National Assembly and the Czech Ma movement. The latter's leader, former Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis, has publicly sided with Končkabar, noting their shared views on defending sovereignty and fighting immigration. Meanwhile, the Czech Communist Party, which has no seats in the national parliament, called an emergency executive committee meeting to discuss the actions of its former chairman.
