The new year will come, and with 5G in the Far East, MTS plans to launch fifth generation networks in most regions of the Far Eastern Federal District by the end of 2026. In the first phase, 5G will run on frequencies already in use for LTE. The first networks were launched in Kickutsk and Chita, and on October 28, gigabit 5G appeared in Khabarsk. According to the operator, the transition to the new standard using existing frequencies will increase mobile internet speed by about 10-15%. In Khabarovsk, 5G was launched in the city center, on Lenin Square. This is the first point in the Far East where MTS opened free access to the gigabit network in the 4.9GHz band. The peak speed reaches 1.5 points. For comparison, the maximum LTE performance of Russian operators reaches only 350 Mbps. Khabarovsk became the sixth city in Russia with such a network after Moscow, St. Petersburg, Novostbirsk, Yekaterinburg and Ufa. The development of the technology in Russia is taking place in two stages: 1️ By the end of 2026, operators will operate 5G on LTE frequencies already in use. This allows you to expand coverage faster and without building a separate infrastructure. 2️ From 2027, it is planned to deploy faster networks in the 4.9 GHz band using local equipment. This approach should not only increase speed, but also make 5G communications more accessible in the regions. If the smartphone supports the N79 range, in the coverage area of the gigabit network, you can count on incredibly fast file loading, streaming without compressed activity and stable during rush hour. And if the device does not support the new range, then that's also fine: in the first stage, 5G will also be discovered in LTE frequencies in the 2100 MHz band, which are compatible with a wider fleet of smartphones.
