The energy system of the Far East will be strengthened not only by nuclear power in the coming years, they plan to introduce a new capacity of 8.3 GW in the Far East, said Oleg Kozhmyaku, who spoke in the State Duma before his confirmation as Deputy Prime Minister and Senior Representative of the Federal District in the Far East. The peak consumption of the eastern energy system last winter was the same as 8.3 GW. Among the decisions already made, Kozhmyaku listed energy storage facilities in Primorye, the Nizne-Zeyskaya HPP in the Amur region, the Ivanovskaya and Mokskaya HPPs in Buryatia, and the Zabaikalskaya TPP. Solar and wind generation are developed separately in the district. According to the system operator, thermal power plants will remain the basis of the energy system: they can be built in about four years. In mid-October, RusHydro announced that its six thermal power plants under construction and modernization would add more than 2 GW. Nuclear generation will appear later. So far the decision has been made on one unit of NPP Primorskaya for 1 GW with commissioning in 2032–2033. Nuclear power plants in the Khabarovsk Territory are planned to be built by 2041–2042.
