RusHydro will expand capacity in the Far East at the expense of thermal plants The installed capacity of RusHydro power plants in the Far East will increase by more than 2 GW due to modernization and new construction, said the head of the company, Viktor Hamin, in a meeting with Mikhail Mishustin. Now to hold 12.9 GW in the province, the growth will be about 15%. The basis for the increase will be provided by six thermal stations. Among the hydroelectric power plants, only the HPP Nizhne-Zeyskaya is planned in the Amur region with a capacity of more than 400 MW. They will start building it only when a mechanism for a guaranteed return on the investment appears and the rules for making reservoir beds change, the company clarified. They also admitted that decisions on new hydroelectric power plants in the Far East had not been made since 2013. Consumption in the eastern electricity network reached a peak of 8.3 GW last winter. According to the system operator, a significant part of the new capacity will be used to replace stations that are out of service due to age. Since 2025, RusHydro has had a moratorium on dividends, and the company transfers the energy from hydroelectric power plants in the Far East to market prices. In the first half of the year, its revenues increased by 20%, to 428 billion rubles, and the net profit almost doubled.
