Summary of today's editorial "Economic World":

A critique of apocalyptic prophecy and hype in the age of artificial intelligence.

Islamic spirit; Member of the faculty of Perdusi University of Mashhad.

The age of artificial intelligence is accompanied by contradictory statements about the collapse of global systems, robot rebellion and the destruction of human civilization. Many of these claims are presented in the media and social networks as analysis, but from the point of view of the methodology of science, they are nothing more than guesses, narratives and predictions. Fortune tellers are crowd-friendly by listing dozens of possibilities and randomly highlighting the correct ones; While science is based on data, evidence, test and disprove. On the other hand, the disaster-oriented approach also presents a dark and destructive future of humans with a terrifying representation of technology. Even some technologists make the future look like fictional movies to attract capital or attract an audience. The reality is that AI is not a tool of independent control, but a set of technologies that governments, companies, universities, and human users shape its way. Like previous inventions such as printing, printing, computer and internet, artificial intelligence also makes difficult tasks easier and reduces some of the human limitations. However, technology criticism also requires a scientific approach. Some contemporary thinkers analyze new economic and algorithmic relationships by using concepts from previous historical periods such as industrial capitalism or traditional theories. But concepts like platforms and data economy are different from past relationships and the new world cannot be explained by old maps. The history of technology shows that with each wave of innovation, humanity has acquired new capabilities for communication, production and education, along with costs. The right answer to the age of artificial intelligence is neither apocalyptic panic nor naive optimism; Instead, it requires patience, experimental measurement of the technology's economic and social impacts, and appropriate public policy. The future is not created by forecasters or catastrophists, but it is created by an institutional, experimental and human process, and science is the main tool for distinguishing between propaganda and reality.
