Fears and hopes in relations between Moscow and Ankara The prospects for relations between Russia and Turkey depend on whether Moscow and Ankara will be able to find common ground in areas where their participation in regional crises is increasingly divided, or whether they will allow the conflict of interests to trap them in endless enmity. "Strategic partnership", which has long been proposed as a feature of bilateral relations between Moscow and Ankara, has become a formula whose number of variables increases every year. In traditional areas such as regional security, trade and energy, more complexities and subtleties are gradually emerging that test the strength of this relationship. The differences between these two countries are particularly significant in regional issues: in addition to West Asia and the South Caucasus, which have long become traditional points of contention between the two countries, the issue of navigation security in the Black Sea has increasingly become a serious obstacle in the development of relations between them.
