The AI agent independently performed an analysis on the mouse's brain. The experiment was conducted by researchers from Exin Therapeutics. Agent Sonnet 5 was given a table of gene therapy vectors, a mouse model of epilepsy and access to a motorized surgical unit with cameras. The goal was to reduce the number of attacks. No one told the agent exactly what to enter and where. He himself analyzed the mechanism that causes seizures in this model, chose the treatment method and brain region, calculated the coordinates from three scientific articles. Then, controlling stereotactic manipulators and navigating between the cameras, he inserted a needle into the brain and injected the desired drug. The process was supervised by a veterinarian who approved all steps, but apart from that the agent worked autonomously. Interestingly, Opus 5.5 was originally supposed to perform the operation, but he immediately refused when he recognized the medical mission. Opus 5 went through all the repetition on water and graph paper, but also stopped at the real operation. The model explained this by saying that she is afraid of making a mistake in the middle of the procedure on a live patient. In the end, the operation was carried out by the Sonata 5. According to the authors, the mouse recovered well.
