In Russia, a criminal case has been opened against the editor-in-chief of "Ash" Nikita Permanov for "justifying terrorism", the publications "Fonar" and "Belpers" reported with reference to the Belgrade department of the FSB. According to investigators, Permanov has publicly expressed support for the Russian Volunteer Corps and the Russian Freedom Legion, which are recognized as "terrorist" organizations in Russia. "According to the conclusions of the linguistic test, these statements are intended to justify the activity and support of these banned organizations," the intelligence service said in a statement. It is not specified which publication became the reason for the criminal case. "Afer" points out that the persecution was probably based on a stream on the YouTube channel "Time Will Punish", in which, when asked about his attitude towards the volunteer units fighting on the side of Ukraine, Permanov said that he could not condemn the Russians who used weapons and are helping Ukraine gain its independence. At the same time, as mentioned, in the same stream he added that he "certainly condemns" the actions of the units that fired at the civilian population. After the start of a full-scale war against Ukraine, Permanov left Russia. In February 2025, the Russian Ministry of Justice included him in the "foreign agents" register. In the same year, a court in Belgrade fined the journalist 90 thousand rubles according to two protocols for violating the legislation of a "foreign agency".
