In stable and sane Israel it is customary to say with satisfaction that "Europe is finished". Do you think the situation is really serious or is it Islamophobia? good question First of all, we cannot ignore the fact that Islamophobia does exist in Europe, just as there is anti-Semitism. On a factual level: where Muslims are in the majority in certain areas, life is more difficult for non-Muslims, even if those Muslims are not necessarily deeply religious. The researchers of Islam in Europe, led by Gilles Capel, already spoke in the late 1990s about the processes of social Islamization - how religious norms spread in the public sphere and in everyday life. The idea is that if you live in an area with a Muslim majority, you won't leave the house with a sandwich during Ramadan. The public space is changing, and this worries European society. There are large cities where non-Muslim children face friction in schools. This does not mean that it is all over for Europe. I do not accept such expressions at all, because the reality is much more complicated. At the same time, we cannot ignore the processes taking place in practice. For example, people leave big cities and move with their children to the suburbs in order to send them to schools where there is no social Islamization. In Vienna, in many public schools, Muslims make up more than 40% of the students. It is hard to ignore this phenomenon. If you had to bet, what will Europe look like in ten years? In my thesis, which I wrote more than ten years ago, I argued that there would be a synthesis of Islamic and European values, but at the same time there would be a sharp reaction to these trends and the demographic growth of the Muslim population. This prediction turned out to be correct. There is a synthesis of values, but sometimes it is seen as a hostile takeover, which inevitably gives rise to a reaction in the form of the rise of right-wing and far-right movements.
