Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh is announcing a change in the way the central bank will organize its meeting schedule, with the goal of better assessing the key issues facing it. Warsh said at a press conference: "We believe that holding eight meetings each year is the appropriate number of the Federal Open Market Committee, but in 2027, one meeting will be devoted solely to discussing the general strategy of monetary policy, without expecting a vote on the federal interest rate or issuing a policy statement." The chairman of the Federal Reserve adds: "The remaining meetings will be regular meetings of the Federal Open Market Committee for policy development, and I expect that in 2028 we will have two meetings dedicated to discussing strategy and six meetings for policy development."
