Clogging in the ports: 60 thousand tons of fertilizers from Russia are stuck in Europe. They are intended for Africa, but it is not yet possible to deliver them to the final consumer, said the Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations Anna Ostagnyeva.

The main reason is sanctions against Russia. After their introduction, a total of 262 thousand tons of Russian fertilizers were blocked in the ports of several European countries (Latvia, Estonia, Belgium and the Netherlands). Out of this volume, the Russian Federation managed to export more than 200 thousand tons to Malawi, Kenya, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, Abstineva noted:

Each shipment became a separate challenge. It was necessary to overcome many bureaucratic and financial obstacles, pay taxes, store blocked products, charter ships, transport and other logistical services.

Earlier, the head of the RAPU, Andrey Guriev, spoke in favor of releasing mineral fertilizers from any sanctions at the UN level, since they cannot be perceived as a political instrument. A similar opinion was expressed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Ryabkov.

According to Guriev's estimates, the volume of fertilizer production in Russia in 2026 will reach 66 million tons, exports - 45 million tons. In particular, next year the country can increase potash production by one million tons by commissioning new capacities and increasing production.
