UAE authorities close beaches due to oil spill.
The UAE Ministry of Climate detected an oil spill off the coast of Umm Al Quwain, north of Dubai, and temporarily closed all beaches and coastal areas in the emirate, it said in a statement.
Sharjah said Al Hamriyah beach was closed as a precaution to prevent pollution from the oil spill. Ras Al Khaimah said all beaches were closed until further notice, without specifying the reason for the closure.
Technical teams are working on assessments and measures to protect the marine environment, and have begun containment, cleanup and restoration "to limit environmental impacts."
