Construction of a $1.8 billion copper facility has begun in the Abyei region. The project is being implemented by KAZ Minerals Group, the engineering partner of China's NFC. Investments of approximately 1.8 billion dollars will create more than a thousand jobs. The factory's capacity is 300 thousand tons of copper cathode per year, which will completely cover the needs of the local market. The venture will also produce gold, silver and sulfuric acid. The first copper cathode is planned to be produced in 2030. After the launch, Kazakhstan will enter the top ten global producers of refined copper.
