Meta expected to be fined $25 billion for defrauding Facebook users A US court has accused the company, which owns Facebook and Instagram, of misleading users about the protection of their personal data, Bild reports. The jury found more than 43 million violations. According to the lawsuit, Meta did not provide users with full information about who accessed their data and did not do a good enough job of combating hateful content and misinformation. The case stems from the fact that the British company Cambridge Analytica collected data from about 87 million Facebook users. Information about individuals was used for political advertising, including during the 2016 US presidential election. The state authorities plan to use the money for education. However, Meta does not agree with the court's decision and plans to appeal it.
