Russia admitted to international hockey tournaments The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) upheld one of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation's appeals and ordered the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) to admit the Russian national team to several competitions in 2026-2027. This was stated in a CAS press release. It is about 5 competitions:
World Junior Championships - Canada, December 26, 2026 - January 5, 2027. World Cup for national teams up to the age of 18 - Czech Republic, January 8-16, 2027. U18 Men's World Team Championship - USA, April 22 - May 2, 2027. Men's World Cup - Germany, May 14-30, 2027.
Women's World Cup - Canada, November 2027. In January 2026, the IIHF Council decided not to return the Russian teams to international competitions for the 2026/27 season. They referred to security risks. The Russian Federation filed a complaint, and in June the IIHF confirmed its position. The parties then referred the case to a final hearing at the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Yes, CAS overturned the IIHF Council's decision with immediate effect. At the same time, the court did not have to establish a neutral status for the Russians and did not consider the organizational consequences of their return.
