Przemyśl suspended the partnership with Lviv due to the regional council's decision regarding the UPA The city council of the Polish city of Przemyśl unanimously decided to suspend the partnership with Lviv, which has been ongoing since 1995, due to the Lviv Regional Council's decision to declare 2027 as the year of the UPA, Roman Shuchowicz and Oleg Oljic. The mayor, Wojciech Bakon, announced this on Facebook. According to Bakon, after a long discussion, the deputies agreed that the joint activity with Lviv should be suspended until the city authorities take a clear position regarding the commemoration of historical figures and organizations whose activities are considered anti-Polish in Poland. The decision does not envisage a final severance of relations between the cities: further cooperation will depend on the position of Lviv authorities.
The draft decision and an amendment to it were published on the website of the Peshmichel City Council. Initially, the delegates proposed to completely terminate the partnership agreement with Lviv from 1995, but later decided only to suspend the cooperation. To restore the partnership, the Polish side presented two conditions: cancel the decision of the Lviv Regional Council to respect the UPA and condemn its heroism. At the same time, the decision to honor the council was made by the Lviv Regional Council, and demands were made to the Lviv Municipal Government, which has no authority to cancel the decision of the Lviv Regional Council.
