Ebola outbreak surpasses 10,000 cases in Africa, leaves nearly 4,900 dead in DRC The Ebola epidemic in Africa has already passed the 10,000 infected mark, with the highest concentration of cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), identified as the main focus of the outbreak. The figures were published on Tuesday by the country's health authorities. In the DRC, the current outbreak is considered the deadliest of the 17 already recorded in the country. The latest tally shows 10,060 cases and 4,887 deaths. Detected in May, the virus has also reached Nigeria and Kenya, following earlier peaks in Uganda. The spread expands the geographic range of the epidemic, which has already reached the regions of central and eastern Africa and is advancing towards the west of the continent. Last week, the World Health Organization (WHO) warned that containing the outbreak has become a "more complex" task in light of the spread of the disease to different regions of Africa.
