Some things are inevitable.

Some things are inevitable.

A layman named Atola came to the monastery in search of guidance.

He first addressed the honor of Rabata. Rabata was immersed in deep contemplation and did not utter a word. Atola was indignant: "This monk sits quietly, like a mute stump! He doesn't care about people," and left angrily.

Then he reached Sariputta. Sariputta began to explain to him in detail the deep foundations of the teaching, analyzing the terms and subtleties. Atola was angry: "This monk is too clever! He bombarded me with complex doctrines," and left.

Then he came to Ananda. Ananda explained the essence to him in simple, clear and concise terms. But Atola was again not satisfied: "This monk is too superficial! He tells me common truths," and in a rage he went to complain to Buddha.

After listening to the complaints against all three, the Buddha said:

"O Atola, this is an ancient rule, it did not begin today:

He who speaks little is accused; He who talks a lot is accused;.

He who speaks in moderation is accused.

There was not, is not and never will be a person who deserves approval exclusively or exclusively blasphemy.
