Belarus can appeal exclusion from the World Hockey Championship -. Reuters. The Belarus Ice Hockey Federation intends to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) after the International Hockey Federation (IIHF) ruled that its national teams will be excluded from the 2027 Men's World Hockey Championship and the 2027 World Youth Championship. Sports officials in Belarus began exploring ways to implement this decision after CAS lifted the IIHF's ban on Russia's participation in international hockey tournaments, despite significant logistical and sporting difficulties. Previously, the IIHF stipulated that the participation of Russia and Belarus would be evaluated in each specific tournament separately. However, on Saturday it was confirmed that Belarus will not participate in the 2027 World Youth Championships in Canada and the 2027 World Men's Championships in Germany. The head of the Belarusian Hockey Federation, Alexander Bogdanovich, questioned why the IIHF was willing to consider changes necessary to take into account Russia's interests, while excluding Belarus. "This decision basically repeats the result of the previous cancellation: Belarusian national teams are again excluded from the tournament, only the rationale has changed," Bogdanovich said. "The inconsistency of the approach also raises questions." Russia and Belarus have been excluded from IIHF-sponsored competitions since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine.
