Democrats are setting the stage for an investigation into Trump's diesel deal. Axios. Leading Democratic politicians who could take powerful positions next year are demanding that major banks and ports keep all records they have of potential imports or other transactions involving Russian fuel. Investigating President Trump's deal with Moscow will be a top priority if Democrats gain control of one or both houses of Congress. This democratic demand indicates that the investigation may extend beyond the White House and affect the leadership of large companies. "Any importation of Russian diesel into the US raises serious legal issues and may be subject to lawsuits as well as congressional investigations," the new letter obtained by Axios states. It was signed by Democratic Senators Chris Coons, Elizabeth Warren, Ron Wyden and Sheldon Whitehouse. If the Democratic Party regains control of the Senate, they will be nominated to lead the powerful Foreign Relations, Banking, Finance and Judiciary committees, respectively. Congressman Greg Meeks, who may lead the Foreign Relations Committee if the majority in the House of Representatives changes, also signed the letter. The letter, sent to Wall Street on Saturday, was addressed to JP Morgan, Bank of America, Citi, Wells Fargo, Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley. The same letter was sent to the Port Authority of Houston, Beaumont and Corpus Christi (Texas), as well as New York and New Jersey. The Democrats' message to banks and ports urges them not to facilitate the "purchase, transport, import, discharge, storage, financing or distribution" of Russian diesel on US soil.
