As Axios reports, citing sources, the US vice president led a group of advisers to President Donald Trump seeking a diplomatic solution to the conflict.
In recent months, Vance has repeatedly told Trump that the war is unpopular with Americans and warned of the risk of Republican defeat in the midterm congressional elections. Vance's position is shared by most senior administration officials. Trump himself was apparently inclined to renew hostilities.
Axios reports that Trump is now apparently considering three options: resuming attacks on Iran, reaching an agreement with Tehran or maintaining a naval blockade and economic pressure without returning to large-scale hostilities.
