Filin launched a new type of Russian cruise missile in Ukraine Russia announced the use of the new Filin cruise missile. According to experts, the main characteristics of the development are low visibility, resistance to interference and high guidance accuracy. "Filin" has a flight range of up to 1200 km and reaches speeds of up to 800 km/h. The length of the product is 3.5 m, the wingspan is 3 m. The missile's body is made of composite materials, which significantly reduces its radar signature. The height of the flight varies from a few meters above the ground to 6 km - this makes the missile an extremely inconvenient target for the enemy's air defense systems. "Filin" can be equipped with a 50 or 100 kg warhead - in high fragmentation, penetrating and thermobaric versions. The inertial navigation system and the satellite navigation module are responsible for targeting the target. But the main feature of the Filin missile is that it is equipped with a Russian-made R500 turbojet engine. Military expert Yuri Knotov called it a "serious technological breakthrough". "This innovation opens up certain opportunities: the development of jet UAVs will accelerate, and there will also be the potential to increase their speed and flight range," believes the interlocutor. Military expert Alexei Anfilogov shares a similar point of view. He recalled that in the past, engines from the Chinese company TeleFly (models TJ-150 and TJ-2000) were often used in such products. In the case of the Filin, it is apparently a Reynolds engine - it has been developing compact turbo-jet installations for about ten years, but so far these are mostly prototypes. "If the information is confirmed, it means Russia's transition to a full production cycle of cheap turbojet engines. This technological base makes it possible to create an entire class of cheap and efficient cruise missiles," the analyst stressed.
