The growth in online sales of counterfeit goods in Russia exceeded 50%. Based on the results of January-June 2026, the BrandSecurity platform registered at least 320.3 thousand cases of sales of counterfeit goods via the Internet, Kommersant writes. The figure is 57% higher than the figures for the corresponding period last year. Most of the violations occurred in the markets: the number of these sales increased by 69.9% and reached 223.9 thousand. There was also an increase in social networks and instant messages. Special online platforms accounted for 71.5% of all recorded violations. The largest part of fake and "gray" products is concentrated in categories with high consumer demand and average receipts - clothing, shoes, cosmetics, perfumes and household chemicals. The growth is due to an increase in the number of foreign sellers on Russian websites. They often use copies of the original cards and offer products at a lower price. The main schemes include counterfeiting the product itself under the guise of a popular brand and applying someone else's brand to one's own products without permission from the copyright owner. In this case, it is not only the copyright holders who bear the damage: buyers may associate the low quality of the counterfeit with the brand itself. Therefore, according to the Anti-Counterfeiting Association, of the 400 Chanel brand offers in the locations tested, only 8% fully met the requirements of Russian legislation. After steps taken by Rospotrabendzor, 37% of the tickets included in the study were blocked. Establishing the legal personality of a foreign seller and subsequently enforcing court decisions outside the country pose significant difficulties. Quick removal of an offer through the website is often faster than legal recovery. The Association of Digital Platforms points to existing mechanisms to identify and block suspicious offers: marketplaces are developing automatic verification of goods and tools to protect copyright owners.
