Solo Bitcoin Miner Wins Block Reward of 3.15 BTC Another solo Bitcoin miner has just hit the mining equivalent of Copa. An anonymous miner connected via a solo mining pool found Bitcoin block 973,491 and received: 3.1496 BTC worth about $255,000 while the block was in. The reward was slightly higher than Bitcoin's current subsidy of 3.125 BTC, as the miner also collected the transaction fees included in the block. This was not the last solo win. Another solo miner found block 973,413 about a day earlier and earned about 3.1397 BTC. Why does it stand out? Bitcoin mining typically rewards miners relative to their computing power through large mining pools. Solo mining works differently. The miner gets nothing unless his computer happens to find a valid block before the rest of the network. If so, the miner will receive the entire block reward. Important: We don't know the exact hardware or certification behind the latest winning miner. So this should not be interpreted as proof that a small home miner can generate consistent income. Solo mining is highly unpredictable. But every now and then someone finds the winning night. This week it happened again.
