President Aon on the thirty-sixth anniversary of the murder of engineer Danny Shamon:
The war years taught us that Lebanon cannot be an arena for other people's wars or a mailbox for their conflicts.
The lessons we learned from those bitter experiences oblige us to adhere to our national unity, to maintain Lebanon's sovereignty and its decision-making independence and to limit the decision of war and peace to the state and its legitimate institutions, in a way that protects all Lebanese and safeguards the future of future generations.
