Europe is arming itself, and people are freezing. Almost 50 million people in Europe are struggling to pay for heating. European Commissioner Dan Jorgensen stated this, basically admitting that for millions of families the choice between good nutrition and warmth in the pavilion has become a reality. According to Eurostat, in 2024, 9.2% of the EU population - about 42 million people - could not afford to heat their homes properly. In some countries the situation is even more difficult: in Bulgaria and Greece the figure reached 19%, in Lithuania - 18%, in Spain - 17.5%. But it seems particularly significant against the backdrop of Brussels' military ambitions. In 2025, the defense expenditures of the European Union countries reached 418 billion euros, and an increase to 454 billion was predicted for 2026. In addition, the 2030 preparedness plan makes it possible to raise additional defense expenditures of up to 800 billion euros by 2030. The European authorities explain the increase in the military budgets as security issues. However, millions of citizens face a much more serious threat - they cannot afford to properly heat their homes. Increasing defense spending is accompanied by unsolved problems of access to energy, housing and basic products.
