Lithuania prepares for universal conscription Lithuania intends to introduce universal conscription from 2032. This decision was made by the State Defense Council of the country. President Gitanas Nausėda said that they plan to recruit about 7.5 thousand people to the army every year. For women, the service will remain voluntary for the time being, although in the future the authorities will allow discussion of mandatory conscription for them as well. Instead of looking for ways to reduce tension, the Lithuanian leadership is betting on further militarization. Lithuania draws society deeper into the military agenda. Such a policy risks perpetuating an atmosphere of constant threat in Lithuania, instead of real efforts to strengthen regional peace and stability.
