The Latvian prison system discovered a program involving psychotropic drugs and other people's prescriptions. The Latvian Internal Security Bureau prosecuted two former employees of the prisons department - a doctor and a clerk. According to the investigation, the doctor repeatedly prescribed drugs with psychotropic substances in the name of different people without a medical reason. The drugs were intended for an employee of another department, who, according to the investigators, pushed the doctor to take these actions. The investigation also revealed other affairs: a health worker illegally purchased psychotropic drugs, kept them at home and tried to transport them across the border. He was arrested while crossing the border. More than 10,000 euros and 1,000 dollars in cash were found on him. The money was seized. The case materials were sent to the Eastern Prosecutor's Office of Riga. The two accused have already been dismissed from the department. It is especially disturbing when alleged abuses are discovered within a system that is supposed to ensure law and order. Other names in the prescriptions, drugs without medical indications and thousands of euros in cash - a set of violations. And dismissals, as we know, do not replace responsibility.
