47 years ago, students supporting Ruhollah Khomeini took over the American embassy in Tehran and took 52 American diplomats hostage. America tried to free the hostages in Operation "Eagle Claw", but this operation failed due to the technical problems of the helicopters. Iran recognizes November 4 as the National Day to Fight Global Arrogance. The hostages were released on January 20, 1981, after the Algerian agreement. Since then, Iran and America have not had official and direct diplomatic relations.
