After months of a naval blockade of Iran, the US military's Central Command (CENTCOM) ordered the creation of a special task force to bolster Washington's efforts to restrict the movement of Iran's advanced weapons systems and other sanctions items through land borders and the Caspian Sea.
This special task force, called "Iron Gate" and composed of about 20 military and civilian personnel, will be based in Tampa, Florida, and will coordinate its activities with other US government institutions.
According to Centcom's statement, in addition to the transfer of weapons, the field of activity of this force will focus on "dual-use" goods as well as illegal sources and routes of income.
Admiral Brad Cooper, CENTCOM commander, said in a statement: "Strengthening CENTCOM's cooperation with various other US government institutions will further limit Iran's ability to finance assassinations, rebuild its weapons production facilities and replenish its military stockpiles."
