The court sentenced Mackenzie to 100 years in prison for murder by starvation and another 100 years for direct murder. The sentences for each of these two categories will be carried out concurrently, but two sentences will be applied consecutively and they will reach a total of 200 years in prison.
McKenzie also faces separate charges including manslaughter and murder; the charges he denies.
The prosecutors in this case demanded the death sentence and argued that the dimensions and conditions of these crimes deserve the most severe punishment given.
