The Turkish parliament approved the tripartite security agreement signed between the country, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan in Mecca last August, with 279 votes in favor against 119 against.

The approval of this agreement in the public hall of the parliament is the last legislative step in Turkey to implement the agreement, according to which an armed ground attack from abroad to any of the three countries is considered a ground attack for all of them.

In addition to mutual defense, this agreement also covers the areas of combating assassination, information exchange, holding joint exercises, cooperation in defense industries and logistical support. It also establishes strategic committees for political and security affairs to monitor the cooperation of the three countries.

Turkey has the second largest military in NATO, Pakistan is armed with nuclear weapons, and Saudi Arabia is the largest oil exporter and home to the most important Muslim site, the Kaaba.

Several other countries have been suggested as possible options to join this agreement, including Egypt. 📷 Reuters.
